When you put it like that...

"I have long since lost accurate count, but at least two thousand of my pictures have been published, some many times over.  If I had shot these at an average shutter speed of 1/60th of a second, the core of my life's work consists barely thirty seconds' worth of exposed film - one second for every year of my career! Even if I add up every frame I have ever cranked through a camera, include all the trash, the total would be less than a million slides - less than five minutes of decisive creativity."

Happy Solstice

Mo and I headed down to Fremont this weekend for the Solstice Parade. The parade was fantastic, but finding our way back home was probably even more exciting.  The buses were rerouted for the parade so we had no idea where to catch the 30 or 31 back to the U-District.  The rest of the story contains a lot of aimless walking and nearly missing 2 more buses until we finally made it back home.

I didn't get any shots I liked of the parade because I only had a 16-35mm with me. Too wide and not enough zoom. Next year! But here are pictures of the car show that was at the fair.

So it appears I'm halfway through my undergraduate career. It sure doesn't feel like it. In an attempt to reflect on everything that's happened this year, I've tried to write and rewrite a long spiel summing up the past three quarters. But some things just can't be equated into words. Some experiences are better left understood, but not explained.

If you have been following this blog for a little while, you already know I love The Daily, I love the people I work with, and I'm bouncing-off-the-walls excited for Peru. To write any more about this year would be redundant.

All I want to say is "thank you" to everyone I've met this year. Thanks for the good times and the bad times. You've all made me a little wiser. And of course, thank YOU for reading! It's been incredibly addicting and fun keeping this blog up to date.

My summer is basically working as many hours as I can to save up for Peru and hopefully having enough money left to buy a wide angle lens before I head to Cuzco. I promise to take photos and update this blog whenever time permits. Until next time...

You might recognize him from one of my first picture-of-the-day posts.
It is indeed our Arts and Leisure Editor. He survived the wall quoting.

Off to the printer! This was pretty amazing to see.
The guy said this machine prints 8 full papers a second!!!

Barrels of ink at the printer. This picture had my name all over it.
Blue, red, and yellow. I mean, c'mon, it's too perfect.

Papers are bundled and getting ready to be delivered! This is around 2A.M.

48. Round Up

Here we are again: another quarter, another year. I am sort of at a loss for words. Maybe it's because I'm sleep deprived, or maybe because there's too many things running around in my head for me to properly comprehend any of it. Finals week is right around the corner, and with that comes another batch of unseen photos that have accumulated over the quarter. I think I will do a separate entry that will cover the last night of publication at The Daily and my overall thoughts about the year. That will be on Monday after I get done with my two biggest finals. On that note, I leave you with a collection of miscellaneous photos from the past ten weeks.

Students from the Middle Eastern Student Association perform the Debkah, a traditional dance that is popular in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon. They got a bunch of students who were watching to join in too! Dance is a great way to communicate.

So is music.

I had no idea we had these. Makes me chuckle because I could never imagine seriously giving this card to anyone. I guess the thought of doing what you love for a living still sounds strange to me?
